MC-UPDATE 002: At a recent People's National Front (PNF) gathering, former President Abdulla Yameen called on the government to take urgent action. He demanded the immediate dismissal of Attorney General Uz Ahmed Usham and the appointment of Dr. Mohamed Munavvar. Yameen stressed that swift action is crucial for reclaiming maritime territory allegedly lost due to recent controversial sea delimitation agreements by the former administration of Ibram Mohamed Solih.
Yameen also urged Parliament to pass a formal declaration asserting that the Chagos Archipelago was unlawfully severed from Maldivian territory by the British during colonial rule. He underscored the profound historical significance, noting that during the 1965 independence talks, then-Prime Minister Ibrahim Nasir raised concerns over the status of the Chagos Islands and chose to defer the matter to the British.

Yameen framed the issue as an unfinished chapter in Maldivian sovereignty, underscoring the crucial role of the current administration in safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity. He stressed that their action is necessary and of utmost importance in this critical situation.
